Kathleen (Kathy) Gentner is a Durham Township resident of 21 years along with her husband Lou , 4 children and 2 grandchildren. Lou and Kathy were high school sweethearts and have been married for 33 years. They moved to Durham Township for the rural location and the fabulous Palisades School District. A quality of the district that met their family needs was the small classroom sizes along with the quality of teachers which allowed for personalized student focused classroom support. Teachers are a part of the family team which supports the student’s success year after year K-12. Palisades School District was aligned with the Gentner’s family values and home life.
Kathy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Holy Family College (Phildadelphia). She worked as a staff nurse at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania and Doylestown Hospital in the ICU and Labor and Delivery. Early in her career she was a Lamaze instructor for pregnant mothers. She is retired from 2 careers-nursing and a small business which assisted homeowners during the 2008 housing crisis. Most of her free time is filled with family, golf, bowling, and relaxing.
She has 7 years experience in government as an elected official. After being elected in 2015 to a seat on the Durham Township Board of Supervisors she gained valuable experience that will assist her in taking a seat as a Palisades School District Board Director. Upon taking her Oath of Office to uphold the US and PA Constitutions along with state and federal laws she hit the ground running learning as much as she could prior to each meeting and continues to this day researching to ensure the safety and well being of the community.
Experience:
- Assisting community taxpayers to find resolution to their concerns
- Developing and managing taxpayer funded balanced budgets
- Interacting with taxpayers and their concerns as they relate to their property rights and taxes
- Development of policies and ordinances
- Working with local and state elected officials
- Working with bureaucratic offices.
During the last 10 years Kathy has served on 3 Palisades School District Comprehensive Planning teams, Durham Township Planning Commission, Durham Township Board of Supervisors and Rural Communities Committee for Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors (PSATS). She has been a supporting member of the Palisades Youth Crew (PYC) , coached cheerleading and youth soccer. During her time in PYC, Kathy traveled to the Dominican Republic performing community service with her children as they assisted a community in La Javilla, Dominican Republic to build a school, church, water filtration system and teach the children of the community handwashing and dental care.
